Five guys stepped out of a time machine and into a recording studio. We gave them a carton of cigarettes, access to vintage recording equipment, and let them tape whatever kind of music they wanted. The result was The Pherns.
We can see the appeal of their infectiously sunny '60s San Francisco jangle pop. In a post-Beatles world where anything and everything points back to the Fab Four, The Pherns take a decidedly homegrown approach, harkening back to bittersweet, straightforward depth of The Lemon Pipers (Ohio) or The Left Banke (New York).
