When Wayne Gibbous rang us up and demonstrated his harmonica skills over the phone, we couldn't draw up a contract fast enough. He didn't have a band yet, but all five of them showed up that afternoon -- instruments in tow -- and all we had to do was press "REC". Legend has it, the first (and last) take of each tune was the first time the band heard the songs. Somehow, it clicked.
"Wayne would start each song with 'Let's go,' not even a count-in or nothin' [sic]; it was crazy!," says drummer Biff Jr. Once the tracks were finished, without a word, Wayne stuffed his harmonicas into his shirt pockets and sauntered out of the studio. We stopped him at the door, begging, "Wait, Wayne, we don't even have a title for the album!"
He blinked blankly behind black sunglasses. Eventually he uttered, simply, "We were never here."
Then he drove off.
Blues clashes with punk on these retro bangers. Led by harmonica virtuoso Wayne Gibbous, this raucous five-piece plays both sloppy and tight.
